Not every growing business is ready for SEO for a multitude of reasons. It could be their lack of patience, low budget, misaligned goals or not understanding what they are embarking on. I thought it would be fun to come up with this SEO quiz that tells you if you’re a bad, good or great candidate for SEO based on certain characteristics.
If you fall under the “bad candidate” category, here are a few tips to help point you in the right direction.
1. Be realistic about your SEO budget. You may only have a few hundred dollars per month to allocate, but to be honest you’re better off waiting. Really good quality SEO is expensive and there’s no way around it. The cheap route is the wrong route. I always tell people, “if you think it’s expensive to hire a professional, wait till you hire an amateur”. You’ll end up spending more time and money repairing your site from cheap SEO tactics, when you should have just done it right the first time.
3. Be patient like Johnny Chan at the final table of the WSOP. This may be the single most important quality to have when doing SEO. Having patience will allow you to benefit greatly from SEO in the long run. If you give up too soon you’ll miss out on a huge opportunity to drive traffic to your site. That being said, don’t be naive if your SEO company isn’t providing you some kind of results in the first few months. Things should be indexing and moving up in the rankings, otherwise get out while you still have a budget.
The quiz is a bit tongue-in-cheek and not meant to be taken too seriously. That being said, it might save you a lot of money some day.
